”The color “green” / which corresponds to the cliché of nature / points to invisible nature / the nature of our brain / which cannot be assigned to any color / green cancels itself out in green / green as camouflage.”
Lois Weinberger
The construction of an “Access Pavilion” confronts us with the challenge of making use of some of the existing structures on the site. These constructions, built through “self-construction” by those who once inhabited the place, display a fragile character and a certain technical weakness.
To intervene in this type of construction implies coming closer to demolition than to renovation or rehabilitation; therefore, the decision was made to build an environment.
An envelope whose character oscillates between a temporary structure and the formalization of a wrapping that grants a new identity to the access building, resignifying what already exists.
The structure, designed with strict geometric rigor and built in locally sourced pine wood painted green, prefigures an intermediate path between the “cordon” that delimits the sacred temples of Ise Shrine and the “growing sculpture” Berkenpalissade by Sjoerd Buisman.
But unlike these enclosures that define a protected space, our cordon is permeable and welcomes visitors to Portal Bosque.
Over time, both the abundant existing vegetation on the site and the newly introduced plantings will take over the structure, blurring its rigor to the point where it becomes difficult to recognize.
