The path that winds through dunes, acacias, pines, and the sound of the sea leads to a clearing. A house of wood, metal, and glass appears among the vegetation.
A series of low, enclosed volumes define and group themselves diagonally around an open central space. Depending on the vegetation of the site and the needs of its inhabitants, the number and position of these volumes can vary; they can also take on different sizes and proportions.
The central social space is multifunctional and is enclosed by large glass panels which, when slid open, allow air to flow through and, during the summer, transform it into a large gallery connected to the outdoors. This complete transparency is nonetheless visually protected by the opaque volumes, which provide privacy and create more intimate outdoor areas in relation to the heart of the house.
The ground-floor volumes can accommodate different uses (kitchen, laundry room, bathroom, grill area, flexible bedroom, beach access), and each includes small, intimate courtyards open to the sky. In this way, the ground floor allows for a rich diversity of living situations and can even expand over time.
Above the ground-floor volumes sits an upper level crowned by a large gabled roof. A central staircase leads to an intimate hall, from which two bedrooms with sloped ceilings—clad in light wood reminiscent of a cabin—are accessed. From these rooms, two large square, abstract windows frame the landscape.
The gabled roof, recalling the image of an iconic house, extends outward to create eaves that protect the glazing on the ground floor. Its connection with the surrounding volumes also provides semi-covered spaces at the edges.
The generous size of the house becomes welcoming through its fragmentation into multiple volumes; this also enriches everyday living situations. Recognizable elements of a traditional house are present, but reconfigured for contemporary life and in dialogue with nature. It appears both strange and familiar, unique and generic, domestic and universal.
